Gabe Guertler Commits to Soo Greyhounds

Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Dubas announced this afternoon, that the Program has received commitment from GABE GUERTLER, a member of their 2011 draft class.

The Plantation, FLORIDA native was originally selected in the 6th Round (113th overall) by the Hounds from Team Illinois U16 program where he averaged nearly two points per game in 2010-11.

"It is with great excitement that we announce today that Gabe Guertler has decided to join the Greyhounds. Adding a player of Gabe's caliber to our team at this stage is another very positive step in our evolution of our Program." began Greyhounds GM Kyle Dubas.

Gabe skated this past season (2013-14) with the University of Minnesota, in the Big Ten Conference, as a true freshman. Guertler will transfer to Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie and continue his studies while playing for the Hounds.

"Im really excited to be a part of the Soo Program. I think it's a great opportunity for me to get better as a player. The Soo is a great program and are a top-tier team in OHL. I look forward to getting started" stated Gabe.

Before joining the Gophers, the 5.09, 185 lb forward played two seasons (2011-12, 2012-13) with the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League (USHL) where he had 31 goals in 60 games in 2012-2013. Guertler led the Force on a long playoff run in 2013 by scoring 6 goals in 13 playoff games.

Internationally, Guertler has suited up with the U.S. Under 18 team at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament (6 points in 4 games) along with the U.S. U-17 Team at the 2011 Five Nations Tournament in Ann Arbor.

"Gabe is a very tenacious and skilled forward who plays the game with great speed. He has shown throughout his time as a prospect of ours that he can make plays at high speed and I look forward to watching Gabe continue to develop under the Greyhound coaching staff. I'd also like to thank David Marasco, the Registrar at Algoma University & Jerry Bumbacco, our Academic Advisor, for all of their help on this matter" concluded Dubas.
