Mississippi Braves News Release

KISSIMMEE, FL - A night after dropping a 10-9 slugfest at Orlando, the Greenville Braves were the only team doing the slugging Tuesday at Disney's Wide World of Sports. Adam LaRoche led a 16-hit attack by going 3-for-5 with a double, homer and three RBI, leading the Braves to a 11-2 thumping of the Rays.

The win, Greenville's fourth in the last six games and 14th in 18 contests, leaves the Braves just one full game behind first-place Jacksonville in the Southern League's East Division standings with six games remaining. The Suns were rained out Tuesday at Carolina and will play a doubleheader on Wednesday at 5:00pm.

While the Braves continued their assault on Orlando pitching, Horacio Ramirez (9-5) silenced the Rays line-up. The lefthander allowed just one run on five hits over seven innings in winning his fifth consecutive decision. Ramirez was staked to a 6-0 Braves lead through three innings thanks to a first-inning RBI double by LaRoche, a second-frame run-scoring double by Ramon Castro and Charles Thomas' two-run homer in the third.

The clubs meet in the third game of their four-game series on Wednesday at 7:05pm. Righthanders Daniel Curtis (3-2) for Greenville and Doug Waechter (1-1) for Orlando will pitch.

NOTES: 2b KEONI DeRENNE went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, running his hit streak to 6 games......THOMAS has 9 hits in his last 17 at bats, including a pair of home runs......the Braves have banged out 10 hits or more in 4 of the club's last 5 games......
