Knoxville Smokies News Release
Sevierville, TN- Paul Stewart threw seven shutout innings to send Tennessee (31-34) to their second consecutive loss at the hands of the Huntsville Stars (35-30) Wednesday night at Smokies Park. The 8-0 defeat eliminates the Smokies from the playoff contention.
The Stars scored all the runs they would need in the second inning when Bill Scott doubled in Pete Zoccolillo. Steve Scarborough added a two-run home run in the seventh inning off Smokies starter Diegomar Markwell (L, 13-8) who was unsuccessful in his bid to become the Southern League's first fourteen game winner. Stewart (W, 12-9) gave up six hits while striking out eight and walking one.
The Smokies conclude their series with the Stars on Thursday night at 7:15 at Smokies Park before welcoming the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx to town for the final four games of the year. Peter Bauer (6-12) takes the mound for the Smokies against Luis Martinez (6-8).
