G-Braves Beat Yankees, 4-2

The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 4-2 on Monday night at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA, in the final game of their eight-game homestand. Gwinnett (26-31) starter Todd Redmond won his third straight start, as the Braves used a 5th inning rally to sink the Yankees (33-25). The G-Braves remain 7.5 games out in second place behind International League South leaders Durham, while the Yankees remain 0.5 games back in second place in the IL North behind Syracuse.

It Was Over When: CF Jordan Schafer's leadoff single in the 5th started an offensive push that saw 5 Braves reach base in the inning, and 2B Joe Thurston clear the bases with a 2-RBI double for a 3-1 lead.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: RHP Redmond (6-5) went 6.0 IP, allowing 9 hits but just 1 R/ER and a single base-on-balls. He also struck out 5 batters. Redmond has yielded just 2 R/ER in his last 22.0 IP while striking out 18. He hasn't given up a HR in three starts. LHP Michael Dunn pitched the final scoreless inning for his 4th save of the season.

At the plate: Thurston went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, while right fielder Mitch Jones was 1-for-3 with his 24th RBI of the season. Schafer extended his hitting streak to 5 games, going 1-for-4 with a run scored.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: RHP Dustin Moseley (2-4) went 6.2 IP with 10 hits, 4 R/3 ER and 2 BB given up. He struck out 3 in his appearance.

At the plate: First baseman Chad Huffman finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.

On Deck: Gwinnett hits the road for a six-game road trip, kicking it off against IL South rivals the Norfolk Tides tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m. LHP Jose Ortegano (2-1, 3.18 ERA) will start for the Braves, while the Tides will send RHP Brandon Erbe (0-9, 6.14 ERA). The game will be broadcast on WDUN-550 AM.
