G-Brave Pitchers Combine for Six Hit Shut out

The Gwinnett Braves defeated the Durham Bulls by a score of 2-0 Thursday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC. Five G-Braves pitchers combined for a 6-hit shutout. With the Gwinnett (58-47) win, the Braves remain in second place in the International League South division standings, but are now 1.0 games behind the Durham Bulls (59-46) for the lead.

It Was Over When: In the top of the 8th inning, DH Mauro Gomez hit his first triple of the year allowing RF Stefan Gartrell to score and the G-Braves to take a 1-0 lead.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: RHP Todd Redmond got the nod for the G-Braves, but did not receive the decision. He tossed 6.0 IP allowing 0 R/ER on 3 H with 2 BB and 5 K's. RHP Arodys Vizcaino (1-0) earned his first Triple-A win coming in the game for Redmond in the 7th. He finished the game tossing 1.0 IP allowing 2 H with 3 K's. LHP Dustin Richardson came in the 8th inning and tossed 0.1 IP and allowed a H with 2 BB. RHP Juan Abreu finished off the 8th inning and allowed 0 H with a K. RHP Jairo Asencio closed the game for the G-Braves and earned his 19th save of the season, striking out all three batters he faced.

At the plate: Thanks to G-Braves pitching, the team only needed a single run to get the win. Two G-Braves had multi-hit games, 1B Brandon Hicks and SS Taylor Pastornicky. Pastornicky finished the game going 2-for-4 and was caught stealing. Hicks went 2-for-4 with an RBI and 2 2B. Gomez had the other RBI going 1-for-4 with a R, RBI and his first triple of the season.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: LHP Alex Torres started the game for the Bulls and like Redmond, did not get the decision. He went 5.2 IP allowing 3 H with 3 BB and 6 K's. RHP Joe Bateman (0-1) earned the loss for the Bulls, tossing 2.0 IP allowing 2 R/ER on 3 H with 2 K's. RHP Adam Russell finished out the game for the Bulls, tossing 1.1 IP and allowed 2 H.

At the plate: The Bulls were held to only six hits on the night, with only two players having multi-hit game. 3B Daniel Mayora went 2-for-3 with a BB, while 2B Ray Olmedo went 2-for-4 with a 2B, the only extra base hit for the Bulls.

On Deck: The G-Braves finish their four game series against the Durham Bulls on Friday night in Durham, NC. The G-Braves will send out LHP Yohan Flande (6-5, 3.90) to take on RHP Andy Sonnanstine (1-1, 3.18) for the Bulls.
