Fort Wayne Fusion News Release
In another effort to stay on the cutting edge of the most exciting sport in America, the Fort Wayne Fusion has announced that they will launch a brand-new website on Friday, June 8th, 2007.
"This is something that we're really excited about," said Assistant General Manager Elvis Ahlborn. "We started putting this all together when I came to the Fusion back in February, so it's been a long time coming. I'm pretty confident the fans will think it's worth the wait."
Ahlborn oversees maintenance and content on the website, and one of the first decisions he made was to change the new website's address to www.FortWayneFusion.com, instead of using the previous address, www.FWFusion.com. "We're making the change to make the site easier to navigate to," said Ahlborn. "Now, instead of having to abbreviate the address, we use the proper name of the franchise. It's just easier to remember."
The franchise is also taking steps to make sure that fans don't get lost while trying to find the new site. "We own both domain names, so if you log on to the old address you'll be redirected to the new one," said Ahlborn. "Of course we'd like to establish the new website brand, but we'll make it as easy as possible to navigate to our website as possible."
The Fusion sees the website as more than just a place to keep up with the team; they see it as an extension of the team's identity. "We want to be top-flight in everything we do," said General Manager Mike McCaffrey. "If we want to establish ourselves as one of the premier franchises in the af2, we need to look like it. Having a great website is a part of that."
The team also had some exacting standards for the new site - the fans. "Our fans are pretty web-savvy," said McCaffrey. "They're very active on the af2 message boards and they keep up with Stacy Clardie's blog [on the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette website], so they're going to be the true judges of how we're doing. They're not shy about voicing their opinions, and I love that. I've seen the new website, and it looks awesome. I'm sure the fans are going to love it, but if they don't, they'll let us know."
The new website, which will be hosted by Infinity Pro Sports, will have all the staples, such as the team schedule, news, links to partner websites, calendars of events, rosters and information on the staff, coaches, players, Dance Team and Mascot. It will also feature all-new graphics and will have information on the team's programs, such as the Power Pack Kids Club, Reactor's Birthday Bash, and the upcoming Women's' Camp.
While the website will have the latest Fusion news and upcoming events, it won't exactly be bursting at the seams. "When the site goes live it may look a little sparse, but that's because this is still our first season," said Ahlborn. "Eventually we'll have a big multimedia area with photos, videos and highlight clips of big plays from our games and events. The thing is, most of the stuff that we want to put on the website hasn't happened yet. It's a priority for us to keep the website up-to-date, so as the season progresses, the content will come."
