Fury's Santana Recalled by U.S. National Futsal Team

The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, will be without defender Nelson Santana through early February as he was recalled to the United States National Futsal Team.

This is Santana's second recall to the team, which is overseen by the U.S. Soccer Federation. The 14-player team will be participating in a training camp in Umag, Croatia, which will include games against teams Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, France and Lebanon. The training is to prepare the team for participation in the 2016 CONCACAF Futsal Championships set for Costa Rica later in 2016, and World Cup qualifiers, which begin in May..

"We are proud to see our player get recognition for his play on the national level," said Fury coach and president Bernie Lilavois. "We know that the leadership and experience he provides to our team will be an asset to the national team."

Santana, from Santa Clara, Calif., is one of four from the Major Arena Soccer League to be recalled for the camp. Former long-time indoor soccer player and coach Keith Tozer coaches the U.S. National Futsal team.

The Ontario Fury will conclude its four-game road trip this weekend with a pair of games in Northern California. Ontario will take on the Turlock Express at 7 p.m. Friday at Turlock Indoor Soccer. The next night, the Fury will face the Sacramento Surge at 7 p.m. at Estadio Azteca in Sacramento.

Ontario will return home at 7 p.m. Jan. 29 to take on the Sacramento Surge at Citizens Business Bank Arena. It will be Scout Night, with several in-game promotions scheduled exclusively for Scouts in attendance. The Fury will also be having its first-ever Teddy Bear Toss, with fans encouraged to bring stuffed animals to throw on the field after the first Fury goal. The toys will be collected and distributed to local charities.

The Fury will be in action again at 3 p.m. Jan. 31 against the San Diego Sockers. There will be a game-worn jersey auction as part of the day's festivities, with proceeds benefitting Casa Colina Healthcare. The first 2,000 fans at both games will receive a set of Ontario Fury trading cards as well.
