Ontario Fury News Release

The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, got a shorthanded goal from Juan Carlos Gonzalez with 3:10 remaining to break a 5-5 tie and held on to defeat the Chicago Mustangs, 6-5, Sunday at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Ontario held a 5-2 lead at halftime, but the Mustangs, who sit tied atop the Central Division, rallied in the second half, including scoring their last two goals on impressive restarts.

But with Corey Maret in the penalty box, the Fury drew a foul in the Chicago end of the field. Stephen Basso took the free kick and passed to a wide-open Gonzalez on the back post of the Mustangs' goal, and he tapped in the ball for the eventual game-winner.

Ontario pushed out to a 5-1 lead, taking advantage of a Mustangs team that had played at home the night before. Israel Sesay, Mauricio Salles, Shaun David, Stephen Basso and Robert Tornel all scored in the first half, as the Fury spread around its offense.

Andy Reyes, signed earlier in the week from Cal State San Bernardino, picked up his first professional point, as he assisted on Tornel's goal, which had given the Fury a 5-1 lead. Lucio Gonzaga, acquired late Friday from Harrisburg, assisted on Basso's goal in his debut with the Fury.

Chicago pushed the attack in the second half, holding possession for long stretches as Ontario focused on holding its lead. Goaltender Sanaldo had 22 saves for the victory, and the Fury were credited with six blocked shots.

The Fury will return to Southern California from the Midwest, and prepare for the ride up to Northern California for two games in two nights against the Turlock Express on Friday and Sacramento Surge on Saturday.

Ontario will return to Citizens Business Bank Arena at 7 p.m. Jan. 29 to take on the Sacramento Surge. It will be Scout Night, with special promotions available for all Scouts in attendance. It will also be the first Fury Teddy Bear Toss, with fans encouraged to bring stuffed animals to the arena to throw onto the turf following the Fury's first goal.

Tickets for that game, and all Fury games, are on sale now at the Citizens Business Bank Arena Box Office and online at AXS.com. Fury group and other packages are also available by calling the Fury's offices at 909-457-0252 or by going to OntarioFury.com.
