Fury Derail Express to Prepare for Playoff Showdown

February 25, 2016 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Ontario Fury News Release

The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, raced out to a 6-0 halftime lead and the shifted into cruise control as they defeated the Turlock Express, 10-2 in front of 3,077 fans Wednesday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

The victory moves Ontario into a three-way tie for second place in the Pacific Division going into Friday night's all-or-nothing matchup against the Tacoma Stars at ShoWare Center in Kent, Wash. The winner of the game Friday night will advance to the post-season, and be in position to finish as high as second place in the division, pending Sunday's San Diego Sockers' game against Dallas.

Wednesday night, the Fury jumped out early as Mauricio Salles converted a Tino Nunez pass just 27 seconds into the game. It was the fastest goal from the start of a game in Ontario's three-year history, surpassing the previous mark of 42 seconds, set in 2014.

Ontario wasn't done, as Robert Tornel scored the first of back-to-back goals just 26 seconds later. Tornel, of Riverside, closed out the first quarter scoring with 1:05 remaining, putting home a pass from Juan Carlos Gonzalez.

Tornel, Andy Reyes (Cal State San Bernardino) and Ulises Mosqueda (Fontana Kaiser High School, UC Riverside) each scored twice for the Fury, as Ontario rested several of its starters to avoid injuries and possible suspensions due to card accumulation. Tino Nunez had a shorthanded goal and added three assists for the Fury.

Ontario will get on a plane for Washington on Thursday, and will take on the Stars in Friday's season finale, which will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on GoLive Sports Cast, and the Fury will be hosting a viewing party at the Doubletree by Hilton, Claremont, 555 W. Foothill Blvd., Claremont. Admission is free, and fans can start arriving at 7 p.m.

Any potential Fury home playoff game for the two-game series will be played at 7 p.m. March 4 at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The first-round playoff series will be a home-and-home series that will be settled by a 15-minute mini-game if tied after two games.

Season tickets for the 2016-17 Ontario Fury season are on sale now through the Fury's offices at 909-457-0252. More information can be found on the Fury's website at OntarioFury.com.
