Ontario Fury News Release
The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, have sent defender Luis Piffer to San Diego to complete this weekend's trade between the two teams.
Ontario received Johnny Topete and Guto Machado in the exchange, which was completed Saturday morning. Topete, a forward, scored three goals in his first game with the Fury on Saturday, then added another Sunday against Las Vegas. Machado, a defender, made his debut with Ontario on Sunday.
Piffer, a defender, was in his second season with the Fury. Originally from Brazil, the left-footer was second on the Ontario squad in scoring with nine goals and 14 assists.
"This was a hard move for us to make," said Bernie Lilavois, the Fury's coach and president. "Luis has been an integral part of our team on the field and in the community. But we felt that adding Johnny and Guto was too important in our chase for the playoffs this season, and both proved themselves on the field in our wins this weekend."
The Fury will return to action Jan. 30 with a two-day, two-game road trip to Northern California. Ontario will take on the Turlock Express on Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m., then will travel to Sacramento to face the Surge at 7 p.m. Jan. 31. Both games will be broadcast online on the Go Live Sports Cast network.
Ontario will return home for one final two-game homestand, starting Feb. 7 against the Sacramento Surge. The 7 p.m. game will be Scouts Night. The Fury will play its final regular season home game at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 against the San Diego Sockers. It will be Fan Appreciation Night, with special events planned for the game.
