Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI.--- A few more bricks continue to be added to the overall foundation which the Fury hope will carry the UHL and minor pro hockey's best winning team to the top of the United Hockey League mountain for a record-breaking, history-making third consecutive season. The two-time reigning Colonial Cup Champions have remained in the building mode as they get ready for their 14th UHL training camp less than two weeks away.
On this date, the Fury Team Owner and Club President Tony Lisman, in concert with Director of Hockey Operations / Head Coach Todd Nelson, have announced the contract signings of two more youthful players with both personnel set to make their debuts clad in the Muskegon championship coat of arms. The newest members of the Fury ensemble cast are left wing BRANDON DORIA and center JOHN HARTMAN. Each newcomer has assented to terms on one-year contract deals with the Fury and both players are expected to be in attendance when the "Furious Ones" take to the ice for their first workout of the dawning season, October 9th at Walker Arena.
DORIA, 24, is approaching his third pro campaign overall and his first in the UHL and with the Fury. The 5-10, 180lb forward comes to "Team Title" having gained earlier pro experiences in both the ECHL and, last season, in the inaugural season of the SPHL (Southern Professional Hockey League.) An American-bred, hailing from Bayonne, New Jersey, Doria saw service in 28-games under the employ of the Huntsville Havoc of the SPHL where he fashioned 5-goals, 4-assists, 9-points, along with 1-GWG and 18-PIM. The season previously, in 2003-04, he performed for a trio of clubs in the ECHL, including Wheeling 9(0-1-1)4-PIM; Toledo 4(0-0-0) 0-PIM and Augusta 48(5-12-17) 26-PIM.
The new member of the Muskegon forwards' cast of characters major claim to fame thus far has been his extra-ordinary collegiate career that he achieved over a four-year period at Holy Cross University of the Atlantic Hockey Conference (AHA). Throughout his days as a Crusaders' sparkplug, Doria averaged over a point a game, amassing 138-points in 136-games on 53-goals, 85-assists, adding 21-PPG and 4-SHG. In fact, Doria was the Holy Cross team scoring titlist in his freshman season of 1999-00; 35(11-19-30) and his senior year of 2002-03 with 35(16-24-40). In his two other seasons with the Crusaders, he finished runner-up in the team scoring derby.
The second Fury newest member, HARTMAN, 25, is a rookie first-year pro, who like Doria, is an American-bred and a product of the U.S. college scene. The 5-10, 185lb native of Faribault, Minnesota has played the past four years in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) with the Michigan Tech Huskies where he was a teammate of current Fury defenseman Clay Wilson. Obtained by the Fury for his outstanding defensive acumen, Hartman saw action in 32-games of his senior season of 2004-05, registering 3-points on 1-goal, 2-assists while accumulating 36-PIM.
Prior to his four-year collegiate stint, Hartman performed for two years at the junior âA' level in the USHL with the Green Bay Gamblers. Through those two seasons, he played in 81-games, recording 10-goals, 20-assists, 30-points, along with 149-PIM.
Today's signings of left wing BRANDON DORIA and center JOHN HARTMAN, bring to 22 the number of players currently under Fury contract for the upcoming 2005-06 season.
