JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A FUNdamentally Different era of Jacksonville Suns baseball begins Thursday, when the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville opens for its first Suns game under the team's new ownership.

The Suns host the Birmingham Barons, Double-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, for a five-game series that will be the only regular season meeting between the clubs in Jacksonville.

The Opening Weekend extravaganza includes the following highlights:

Thursday, April 7, 7:05 p.m. (Gates open at 6 p.m.)

Opening Day - Baseball is back, and the Suns have planned a FUNdamentally Different debut. Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry and his son Boyd Curry will each throw ceremonial first pitches. The 2016 Suns will enter the playing field in a lineup of Mustangs before the game. The Navy will present the colors before the national anthem.

Magnet Schedule Giveaway presented by Bug Out: The first 5,000 fans receive a free Suns 2016 magnet schedule at the front gates.

Maverick's Live Thirsty Thursday fueled by Budweiser: Fans can purchase $1 beers both adjacent to the new Tiki Terrace and at the right-field bleachers.

Postgame Fireworks: Fans can see the first of 14 Fireworks shows scheduled throughout the season.

Friday, April 8, 7:05 p.m. (Gates open at 6 p.m.)

NAPA Family Fireworks presented by NAPA Auto Care Center: Beginning a series of shows at all 11 Friday home games, the Suns will have postgame fireworks!

Red Shirt Friday: Fans are encouraged to wear red to support the military and save $1 per ticket at the box office, or donate the $1 to Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The Suns will wear red jerseys for every Friday home game this season.

Saturday, April 9, 6:05 p.m. (Gates open at 5 p.m.)

Memorial Hospital Glow-in-the-Dark Suns T-Shirt Giveaway: The first 1,000 fans through the front gates receive a free Glow-in-the-Dark T-shirt.

Bug Out Magnet Schedule Giveaway: The first 1,000 fans through the front gates receive a free Suns 2016 magnet schedule.

Red Trouser Show: Amazing acrobats will perform before and during the game.

Sunday, April 10, 3:05 p.m. (Gates open at 2 p.m.)

Baptist Health Sunday Family FUNday and Kids Opening Day: Kids can feel like the pros before each Sunday home game, as kids and their families can play catch on the field at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Then a Suns player will read a children's story to kids on the concourse. Following the game, kids 12 and under can run the bases.

Charity Begins at Home with Pit Sisters - Through the brand-new "Charity Begins at Home" program, Pit Sisters Inc. is the first local nonprofit organization to raise funds through ticket sales and the Launch-A-Ball promotion that will be a feature of each Monday home game.

First Coast News Night - Look for weekly unique features from First Coast News around the ballpark each Monday.

Marlins Monday - Fans can enter to win tickets to see the Suns' major league affiliate, the Miami Marlins!

Bark in the Park - Suns mascot Southpaw will have company as the canines come to the ballpark. Dogs get in free to the ballpark with a paying human companion, and dogs can run the bases after the game. There will also be select dog-free zones around the ballpark.

Season-long FUNdamentally Different promotions include:

$5 general admission tickets: fans can get into any game this season for just $5!

$2 hot dogs: a ballpark tradition will be just $2 at every game!

$5 tickets for military: Any active military member or veteran may show an ID at the box office to purchase a reserved seat or general admission for just $5 - any game of the season!
