Fuel and Community Health Network Team up

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs are excited to join forces with Community Health Network in hosting "The Giving Game," taking place Friday, February 24 at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
In conjunction with Community Health Network's "The Giving Gig," the Fuel will wear commemorative uniforms to honor local cancer patients and caregivers as they take on the Fort Wayne Komets. The game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off live after the game, with all net proceeds benefitting the Community Health Network Foundation.
"We are overwhelmingly grateful to the Indy Fuel for hosting The Giving Game in support of Community Health Network's cancer patients in financial need," said Joyce Irwin, president and CEO of Community Health Network Foundation. "Thanks to their support and that of their fans, we can help more cancer patients access the resources they need - including healthy food, life-saving medicine and gas to get to and from treatment- to focus less on the financial burden cancer can cause and more on fighting the strongest fight possible."
The Fuel's jersey was selected by a committee of Community cancer fighters and caregivers, out of a number of designs submitted via an online contest. The winning designer, Indianapolis native Colleen O'Maley, crafted the jersey while attending a chemotherapy session at Community Cancer Center South with a relative, who is battling cancer. A senior majoring in graphic design at The University of Saint Francis, O'Maley has seen a number of friends and loved ones face a cancer diagnosis.
With that in mind, she wanted the jersey to acknowledge all those who fight cancer, so she included a variety of cancer awareness ribbons to make the design relatable to as many people as possible. Come February 24, she hopes that fans of all ages at The Giving Game feel both a personal connection to the jersey and to the team as they play for each and every cancer fighter.
"It's not every day you hear that a team will wear a jersey you designed," O'Maley said. "And to know they will be auctioned off to help cancer patients who really need it- it's just really special to be a part of it all."
Taking place on Feb. 11 in downtown Indianapolis, Community's annual "The Giving Gig" event raised over $1.6 million in support of Community Health Network's Oncology Patient Assistance Fund, which provides cancer patients in financial need with vouchers that allow them to access healthy food, life-saving medicine and gas to get to and from treatment.
Next Home Game: Friday, February 24 vs. Fort Wayne - 7:35 p.m. (The Giving Game) The Fuel and CHN join forces again, this time in conjunction with Community Health Network Foundation's annual "The Giving Gig." The Fuel will be sporting specialty jerseys designed by local patients, which will all be auctioned off after the game. All of the net proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit the Community Health Network Foundation. Friday is also a Fuel College Night presented by Moe's Southwest Grill - pick up a ticket, $5 towards concessions and $5 Moe's Bucks for $20 with a valid college ID.
