Orlando Predators News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. (FEB. 14) -- After a three-hour morning practice, Orlando Predators quarterback Shane Stafford and wide receiver Jimmy Fryzel made a visit to Orlando's Veteran Administration Hospital to help with that organization's annual salute to injured veterans.
Fryzel and Stafford attended a celebration service and then made personal room visits to individual veterans who could not attend the event. The pair gave out signed Orlando Predators footballs, caps and schedule posters to the veterans and staff members.
"It was sort of funny when the staff people said that the veterans looked up to us, when in reality we were looking up to them," Stafford said. "It was their courage and sacrifice that makes our country great and we were the ones that were honored to be in their presence."
CAMP NOTES: The Predators will practice on Thursday before heading to Tampa for a 7 p.m. scrimmage on Friday...head coach Jay Gruden emphasized the importance of scrimmage to the entire team..."Our training camp is not very long and Friday's scrimmage is vitally important," Gruden told the team after practice on Wednesday. "Based on your performances, jobs will be won or lost."...Depending on how final cuts go down on Feb. 25, Gruden estimates the Predators may have to carry as few as 20 players on the active roster when the season opens because of salary cap concerns...Teams are allowed to carry 24 players on their roster, but many carry less than the maximum to remain cap compliant...The current Predators roster is the most experienced ever in terms of National Football League experience...the current 33-man roster has 11 players with a combined 415 games of NFL experience...Dwayne Carswell leads the way with 163 games and two Super Bowl Championships as a member of the Denver Broncos from 1995-2005...Friday's scrimmage in Tampa is free and open to the public...action begins at 7 p.m. at the St. Pete Times Forum in downtown Tampa Bay...with injuries to Jimmy Fryzel and Clif Dell, the Predators thin at wide receiver and are contemplating beginning in a few players on two-day tryout waivers.
