Adirondack Frostbite News Release
RICHMOND, VA -- The Adirondack Frostbite improved to 15-4-0 overall on the season, and 7-0-0 against Richmond, with a 5-3 win voer the RiverDogs on Wednesday night at the Richmond Coliseum
For the first time in nine games, the Frostbite scored the first goal of the game, 3:19 into the opening period. David Moccia's shot from the left-wing circle was stopped by Mike D'Allesandro, but the rebound came to Pierre-Luc Leblond streaking down the right-wing side, and he was able to slide the shot into an open net for his second goal of the season.
Richmond tied the game at 9:37 as Mike Oliveria took a centering feed from J.J. Wrobel, and wristed a shot over the left shoulder of Kris Tebs.
Adirondack went back on top just 42 seconds into the second period as Ryan Bennett skated the puck behind the Richmond net, and centered a pass in front for Mark Hurtubise. He was able to settle the puck down, and snapped a shot past D'Allesandro for his sixth goal in just 11 games.
The back-and-forth nature of the game continued as the RiverDogs once again tied the game at 8:57. Oliveria's shot was blockered down by Tebbs, but Bobby Kukulka gathered in the rebound in the slot, and beat Tebbs to the glove side for his first goal of the season.
The Frostbite scored a pair of goals before the period ended to take a 4-2 lead into the third period. At 11:21, Hugo Belanger took a cross-ice pass from Sylvain Cloutier on the near post, and was able to roof a shot over D'Allesandro for a power-play goal, his 10th tally of the season.
Kevin Watters made it a two-goal lead at 17:06, taking a centering pass from Mike Berry and blasting a shot past D'Allesandro for his team-leading 13th goal of the season.
Richmond pullled back within one 8:17 into the third period. Jason Cassells won a face-off back to Brian Goudie at the reight point. Tebbs was able to get a piece of the shot, but could not corral it cleanly as the puck rolled in behind him.
Berry restored the Frostbite's two goal lead at 12:06, as he was able to tuck a shot past D'Allesandro on a goal-mouth scramble for his sixth goal of the year.
Adirondack takes on Richmond again on Friday night at the Richmond Coliseum with face-off set for 7:35 p.m. Catch all of the action on WCKM 98.5, starting with the pre-game show at 7:15 p.m.
