Fabien Laniel scored a hat trick for the Flint Generals as they defeated the Missouri River Otters 7-3 at Perani Arena & Event Center.

The Generals got off to a fast start when Jason Selleke banged home a power play goal early in the first period. Breakaway goals from Leo Thomas and Laniel extended Flint's lead to 3-0 heading into the second period. Flint started the second period the way they played in the first, making it 4-0 when Laniel scored his second goal of the game on a 3-on-1 break. The River Otters gave the Generals a scare with three quick goals from Scott Horvath, Lars Pettersen, and Tyler Butler to make it a 4-3 game heading into the final period. Goals from Terry Marchant and Adam Sturgeon early in the third period made it a 6-3 game, and Laniel added the empty net hat trick goal to seal the deal for the Generals. Peter Brady made 25 saves to pick up his first win of the season, while Kevin Reiter suffered the loss.
