Frost Heaves add D-League point guard to roster

December 9, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Vermont Frost Heaves News Release

The Vermont Frost Heaves have added Dwuan Rice, a 5'11" guard from Cal State-Bakersfield, to their roster. He made his debut yesterday at the Barre Municipal Auditorium, scoring 13 points, dealing five assists, grabbing four rebounds and adding a steal in 17 minutes of action during a 118-94 defeat of Quebec.

Rice comes to the Frost Heaves from the NBA's Development League, where in November he was chosen in the seventh round of the D-League Draft by the Idaho Stampede.

"Dwuan is a lightning quick guard who'll be able to push tempo and pressure full court," said Frost Heaves coach Will Voigt. "He's also an outstanding kid who comes highly recommended by his college coach. The Stampede released him only because they signed Randy Livingston, an NBA point guard who was last season's D-League MVP."

A native of Pasadena, Calif., and graduate of Pasadena High, Rice spent a season at Los Angeles City College before taking over leadership duties in the backcourt at Bakersfield, the perennial Division II power. He finished his career as a Roadrunner tied for fourth in assists with 342, and seventh in scoring with 1,056 points. He also ranked third in career steals.

As a senior Rice played particularly well in CSUB's seven games against Division I competition, averaging 15.3 points and 4.7 assists.

Last spring Cal State-Bakersfield honored Rice with the Flachmann Award, which is given annually to the school's top male and female athletes.
