MWL1 Beloit Sky Carp

Front Office Looks to Keep Things Rolling in '08

October 11, 2007 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Coming up just one game short of their first Midwest League Championship since 1995 left the players, coaches, and fans wanting more. The Snappers battled back from a 0-2 series deficit with two wins at home to tie the series at 2-2 and force a decisive game five. Beloit went on to drop game five of the Midwest League Championship Series to the West Michigan Whitecaps, ending the season and leaving everyone wanting more.

"Coming this close to winning a title leaves kind of a sour taste in your mouth," said Director of Media and Community Relations/Marketing Erik VanDyck. "The atmosphere here at Pohlman Field for that final game of the Midwest League Finals was amazing. The excitement of the fans and the community makes you realize how cool your job really is. We wanted to get this thing done because you never know, working at any level of professional sports, if you are going to get another shot at winning a championship."

Still the Snappers enjoyed one of their most successful seasons in franchise history. Team records were broken, attendance was up, and Beloit even tied for the best home regular season record in all of professional baseball (51-21).

"I knew we had a special year going when we beat the Great Lakes Loons on July 24th," VanDyck said. "They scored five runs in the top of the 12th inning and we came back to score six in the bottom half to win it. That was just one of many great moments this season that I will never forget."

The success of the team on the field carried over to the sponsorship side of things as well. The Snappers' staff enjoyed its best season, corporate wise, in team history.

"We always pride ourselves in our corporate sales, but this past year just seemed to take off like crazy," said Director of Corporate Sales/Promotions Riley Gostisha. "We created signage everywhere we could throughout the stadium to give every advertising budget an option. The demand for advertising with us was never higher, which is obviously a good thing. Our sponsors are the reason we are able to exist and we are extremely grateful to them."

The Snappers are even more excited about this upcoming season with brand new promotions and ideas floating around.

"2008 looks to be even more successful than last year," Gostisha said. "The fun part of my job is trying to create a vision that a business may have, and then carrying it out. All of us here realize how unique and fun it is for companies to advertise with the Snappers and we are determined to keep things rolling."

Setting the bar so high is something that the staff is both proud of and eager to surpass. But with only three full-time staff members right now, the Snappers are looking to add to their family.

"We are not at full strength administrative wise right now with just Riley, Erik, and I," said General Manager Jeff Vohs. "We are in the process of getting two more full-time staff members right now in hopes of keeping our momentum from last year. Our volunteers, board members, and fans are a big component of our success and we are eager to get two fresh faces in here to get 2008 going."

The new staff members will come into a situation that already has a definite solid base to it.

"We would like to thank all of our great and loyal fans for a truly special season," Vohs said. "2007 will likely turn out to be the most successful, all-around, in the 26 years here. The smiling faces and high spirits of everyone around the Snappers go a long way towards what we try to provide as an organization."
