Frisco Falls in Finale, Takes Five of Six from Amarillo

FRISCO, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders dropped their first game in more than a week on Sunday evening, losing 3-2 to the Amarillo Sod Poodles from Riders Field. The Sod Poodles scored the go-ahead run in the ninth to take their first game of the series.

RoughRiders (19-13, 55-46) found the scoreboard first in the initial inning when Aaron Zavala crushed his second home run in Frisco, a two-run shot to give the Riders a 2-0 lead. Over his first seven games with the Riders, Zavala is hitting .417/.533/.875 with eight RBIs and five runs scored.

Amarillo (16-16, 48-53) stuck back in the fourth when Nick Dalesandro singled in a run against Riders starter Antoine Kelly, In his Double-A debut after getting traded to the Rangers organization on August 2nd, Kelly threw 3.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out five and walking one.

Avery Weems was strong in the relief as well, ceding just one run over his four innings with six strikeouts while not walking a batter.

The one run he did allow came in the sixth when Leandro Cedeno grounded a single up the middle, plating Tristin English to tie the game at 2-2.

Amarillo took the lead in the ninth off of Riders reliever Marc Church (0-1) on an RBI single by Ti'Quan Forbes.

Jeff Bain (8-1) captured the win for Amarillo, throwing a scoreless inning in the eighth, while Blake Rogers used a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his ninth save of the season.

The Riders continue their 12-game homestand on Tuesday, August 9th as they welcome in the San Antonio Missions (San Diego Padres) for six games. Game one starts at 7:05 p.m.
