June 19, 2014 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orlando City SC News Release
Orlando, Fla. - Orlando City SC announced today that Friday's international friendly against Sao Paulo F.C. will be aired live on television in Brazil via prominent sports networks, SporTV 2 and ESPN Brasil. Scheduled for kick-off on Friday, June 20 at 8 p.m., the Lions' match against SPFC will air in Brazil directly after the Honduras versus Ecuador World Cup fixture, showcasing the City Beautiful while also further developing the OCSC brand globally.
With Major League Soccer (MLS) entry less than a year away, Orlando City has made clear aspirations of becoming a recognizable brand not only locally and nationally, but also outside of the United States' borders. The Club has already made strides to achieve that mission, with the Orlando City Brasil Facebook page generating over 700,000 'likes' in a short period of time, and City's participation in numerous international friendlies against sides from premier leagues across the world in the past three years.
"This is another great example of Orlando City's growing partnerships with the country of Brazil," said Orlando City President Phil Rawlins. "We are proud of the role Orlando City is playing to help promote all the wonderful benefits that Central Florida has to offer to international visitors."
Since arriving to the City Beautiful in 2011, Orlando City has competed against reputable clubs such as Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United F.C., Stoke City, Fluminense, and most recently AS Roma, who narrowly defeated the Lions 1-0 on May 23, 2014, at ESPN Wide World of Sports.
Friday's match against Sao Paulo F.C. adds to that impressive list of friendlies, as the Brazilian powerhouse is known as one of the most successful clubs in South America. Along with its success domestically, which includes 21 state titles, six Brasilerao titles and three Libertadores Cups, SPFC has also done incredibly well on the international stage- winning three Club World Cups: two Intercontinental Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup title.
Barring any injuries, Sao Paulo's full squad will be available for selection on Friday night, including star players Luis Fabiano, Rogerio Ceni and Alexandre Pato.
Tickets can be purchased via TicketMaster or by calling an Orlando City Ticket Representative at 855-ORL-CITY.
