Kitchener Rangers News Release
Friday is Pink Shirt Night, presented by the Waterloo Region Record, and we're asking our fans toÃÂ support the anti-bullying movement by purchasing this year's shirt (designed byÃÂ Leah Campbell from Grand River Collegiate) for $10 at the game. Puck drop at The Aud is set for 7:30pm against the Owen Sound Attack.
Shirts are available in sizes Youth XS to XL and Adult S-XXL. All sizes are unisex and made from 100% cotton.
The Rangers, the Waterloo Region Record's Newspaper in Education (NiE) program, and WAYVE (Wellness Acceptance Youth Voices Empowerment)ÃÂ are working together to raise awareness of bullying in our community. Bullying is a serious issue in our schools, homes, work and online.
We also ask that you show your support and wear pink on February 26th, 2020 for Pink Shirt Day Waterloo Region.
How did Pink Shirt Day begin?
In 2007, two high school students from the small community of Cambridge, Nova Scotia witnessed a boy in the ninth grade at the local high school being bullied for wearing a pink polo shirt. Bullies harassed the boy for wearing pink and threatened to beat him up.
The next day hundreds of students showed up wearing pink clothes to take a stand against the bullies.ÃÂ It was this story that inspired the movement Pink Shirt Day.
