San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas - Coming into tonight's game, the Colts had lost two straight, getting seven combined hits in their previous 15 innings until a three-run ninth inning on Thursday. That inning came when the Colts were down by nine, but the momentum carried over to Friday's game. San Angelo scored five two-out runs in the second, including four on two-run homers, as Bryan Frichter broke out of a 1-for-16 slump with two two-run shots of his own, and the Colts beat the Harlingen WhiteWings 10-4 in front of 1,743 fans at Foster Field.

After an RBI single by Charley Belew put the Colts on the board, Frichter's first homer came on an 0-2 hanging curveball from Todd Lutz (2-5) in the second, making it 3-0. After a double by John Anderson, Jose Torres broke a three-way tie for the team lead in homers by launching his 12th home run of the season to make it 5-0.

Jason Landreth hit another two-out homer, his first of the season, off Lutz in the third, as the Colts (37-25) extended to a 6-0 lead. It was as high as 7-0, but the WhiteWings (18-46) scored two runs off Chris Weast in the fifth and two more off Alex Merricks (2-0) on a two-run homer by David Fowler in the sixth to make it 7-4, the closest Harlingen came all night.

Weast, making his first professional start, fell an out shy of qualifying for the win, going 4.2 innings, allowing five hits and two runs, while striking out five and walking four. Merricks went 3.1 innings, with the homer as his only hit allowed, giving up two runs while striking out four and walking three.

The Colts got some breathing room on an unearned run in the sixth, when Andres Rodriguez's grounder went through the legs of third baseman Joel Gonzalez. Then Frichter slammed his second dinger of the night off professional debutant Armando Casas, who struck out four in an inning and a third, but also gave up a double and the home run to Frichter in the seventh.

Miliade Venas pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Colts to finish it off.
