April 2, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Fresno Grizzlies News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies announced today that their mascot, Parker T. Bear, has been placed on the seven-day disabled list for injuries sustained during a Spring Training workout at Chukchansi Park. In preparation for Fresno Grizzlies Opening Day on Thursday, April 9th, Parker took a fastball to the face during batting practice yesterday morning and was rushed to Valley Children's Hospital where he underwent minor facial surgery.
"Parker sustained a really grizzly injury," stated Dr. Michael Allshouse, Medical Director of Pediatric Surgery at Valley Children's Hospital. "He sustained a concussion, has several facial lacerations, and a couple facial fractures. We completed surgery on him late last night and with a little bit of hibernation he should be fine."
Parker, age 8, remains in recovery at Valley Children's Hospital and will be a game-time decision for Opening Day on Thursday, April 9th. The hope is that the Valley icon can be released from the hospital late afternoon on Thursday and arrive to the park prior to first pitch.
"As we inch closer to Opening Day, we didn't really anticipate a situation where we may be without our main entertainer," stated Derek Franks, Grizzlies General Manager. "Luckily, Parker has the recovery skills like a product of Weapon X and the doctors over at Valley Children's are exceptional at getting kids back in the game."
