Fresno Grizzlies Announce 2021 Opening Day Roster

(Fresno, CA) - With Opening Day right around the corner, the Fresno Grizzlies, Low-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, announced its 2021 Opening Day Roster today. 16 pitchers and 14 position players have been assigned to Fresno, including three of the Rockies' top 12 prospects as listed by MLB.com (#1 OF Zac Veen, #10 C Drew Romo and #12 INF Grant Lavigne). The Rockies set the roster and are responsible for all the player transactions during the season.

Who to Watch in 2021:

#1 Ranked Prospect OF Zac Veen was selected by the Rockies in the 1st round (ninth overall) in the 2020 draft out of Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange, Florida. As a junior in high school, Veen was named _The Daytona Beach News Journal _Baseball Player of the Year after batting .414 with 36 stolen bases. He also played in the 2019 Under Armour All-America Baseball Game and 2019 Perfect Game All-American Classic. Prior to signing with Colorado, Veen was committed to the University of Florida.

#10 Ranked Prospect C Drew Romo was drafted by the Rockies in the CBA round (35th overall) of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft out of The Woodlands High School in Texas. Romo was the last catcher to play on two straight Team USA 18U teams since Joe Mauer.

#12 Ranked Prospect INF Grant Lavigne has played two seasons in the Rockies system. In 2019, he ranked third in the South Atlantic League with 68 walks. He also drove in 64 runs on 104 hits. While in 2018, he was named a Pioneer League Mid-Season and Post-Season All-Star and MiLB.com Organization All-Star. Lavigne also led the Pioneer League in on-base percentage and ranked fourth in the league in batting average despite being one of the youngest players in the league. He was selected by the Rockies in the CBA round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Bedford High School in Bedford, New Hampshire.

#17 Ranked Prospect LHP Sam Weatherly was selected by the Rockies in the third round of the 2020 draft out of Clemson University. He was originally picked by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 27th round of the 2017 draft, but did not sign. Weatherly went to Howell High School in Michigan.
