Fresno FC News Release

LOS ANGELES - For the better part of 90 minutes, Fresno FC made it known that this fourth-round Open Cup matchup would not be an easy result for LAFC. The two teams played to a scoreless first half, though LAFC earned the majority of the opportunities with their best coming at the 28th minute when Calum Mallace fired a shot from distance that goalkeeper Kyle Reynish was able to smother. LAFC's Adama Diomande had an early chance at the 18th, but his shot was blocked by Fresno defender Cory Brown.

The hosts finally broke through in the 53rd minute when Diego Rossi tapped in a ball right in front of goal, that trickled by Reynish for the lead.

Moments later, Latif Blessing doubled the lead, following the rebound from Mallace's shot with a hit near post. They nearly added another to their tally at the 82nd, but Reynish was able to make the diving stop.

Danny Barrera nearly Los Zorros on the board at the 85th with a strike from 30 yards out, but it was deflected by Tyler Miller. At the 73rd minute, the Foxes earned a corner kick as Bradley Kamdem Fewo was fouled near the touchline, but they were unable to make anything come from the advantage. A few minutes later, the Foxes found themselves connecting passes in the final third, but Jemal Johnson was unable to find a clean shot to goal as his attempt was blocked by Tristan Blackmon.

The Foxes exit the Open Cup with a 2-1 record that saw wins against Orange County FC and Sporting Arizona FC.

Fresno resumes play in the USL regular season on Saturday, June 9 at Reno 1868 FC. at 7 p.m. The Foxes return to Fresno the following week, hosting Sacramento Republic FC in the first in-season Highway 99 Derby. Tickets are on sale now at FresnoFC.com.
