October 5, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Cape Cod Frenzy News Release

Orleans, MA. The ABA Cape Cod Frenzy announced that they have come to terms with a pair of former Rhode Island Rams teammates, 6-5 guard Dustin Hellenga and 6-9 forward/center Marcel Momplaisir. The two players were teammates on the 2003-2004 URI team that finished 20-14.

Hellenga, originally from Centreville, VA and South Lakes High School (alma mater of NBA star Grant Hill), played his senior year of high school at Winchendon Prep School located in north central Massachusetts. During his three year career at Rhode Island, Hellenga posted career high averages of 13.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists per game. In 2005-2006, he played overseas in Portugal where his highest statistical averages were 23.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. He shot 56% from the floor and 37% from 3-point range. He is remembered by Rams fans for hitting a game winning three point shot against Dayton on March 2, 2004, giving the Rams a 65-62 win.

Marcel Momplaisir, a blocking machine, is terrific running the court and prowling the baseline. Born in Queens, NY, Momplaisir attended Manhattan Center College High School before heading to Rhode Island. Last year he played for Objetivo San Carlos in the Brazilian Paulist League, where he posted averages of 16.0 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per game.

"We've added two more quality players from a great league like the Atlantic 10 to go along with the first two signings from Boston College (ACC)," explained Frenzy GM Ian McCarthy, "And we've got a few more surprises up our sleeves to announce shortly."
