Frenzy leave with a victory

Cape Cod Frenzy News Release
Springfield, MA. The hometown team of the Greater Springfield Pro Am Basketball League (GSPABL), the Slamm, almost proved to be spoilers, but their upset of the ABA's Cape Cod Frenzy did not come to be. The Frenzy escaped Springfield with an 81-77 overtime victory in the much anticipated exhibition game.
The Slamm got into transition early and jumped out to a 10-1 lead to start the game. The Frenzy, playing with a modified and reduced roster, looked dazed and confused at the outset. New Slamm addition, however, 6'5 guard Eric Downie, showed flashes of brilliance as he helped his new team extend to a 17-point lead at 43-28 with seconds to go before halftime. Cape Cod, startled but not rattled, went to work in the 2nd half, punishing the Slamm in the post.
"We were definitely concerned with the deficit especially since they were playing only 8 minute quarters, when we are used to 12," stated Frenzy coach Angel Robinson Jr. "That meant we had to overcome 17 points in 16 minutes."
The Frenzy took turns posting up forwards Q Randall, Scott Hazelton and center Ife Anosike against their smaller counterparts. The strategy began to pay dividends as the Frenzy crept bit by bit back into the game. The Frenzy established a 73-71 lead with 23 seconds to go before a Downie basket tied the score at 73. The overtime period saw Cape Cod nursing a precarious 3 point lead, but a free thrown by guard Bilal Abdullah sealed the victory.
Scott Hazelton led all scorers with 23; Q Randall posted 16 and center Ife Anosike scored 15. The Slamm were lead by Eric Downie with 20 points. For more information, contact Frenzy GM Ian McCarthy at ian@capecodfrenzy.com or visit www.abalive.com.
