August 2, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Question from Robert W, Toledo, OH: "Are there age limits for players in the ABA?"

Answer: Robert. I pulled your question out of the files when the enclosed release came from the Atlanta Vision. I thought it was a great story and a good answer.

ATLANTA VISION SELECTS 47 YEAR OLD FOR VET CAMP: PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL'S OLDEST ROOKIE

Atlanta, GA. Atlanta's new professional basketball team has announced the selected players from this past weekend's tryout camp that have earned a spot on their Vet Camp Roster. One name, which may come as a surprise to some, but not to those that were in attendance, is 47 year old Kelvin Davis. Kelvin Davis is pursuing his life-long goal of becoming a professional basketball player even after 20 years of marriage and five children. "Kelvin Davis satisfied the Atlanta Vision and exceeded the expectations of all those that stood in amazement of this awesome feat," stated Vision owner Quentin Townsend. "LeBron James and Kelvin Davis should do a Nike commercial together because this weekend, WE WERE ALL WITNESSES! Kelvin has something that cannot be purchased and few have, heart fueled with the mentality to win," added Townsend. Should Kelvin Davis make the team, he will be the oldest rookie in the history of professional basketball."

So, Robert - the answer - you need to be at least 18 or older. If you have a question, send it to joenewman@abalive.com or visit www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
