Utah Royals FC News Release
HERRIMAN, Utah - Utah Royals FC announced today the acquisition of French midfielder Amandine Henry from Angel City FC in exchange for $75,000 in allocation money. Henry will join the Royals through 2025 with an option for 2026.
Henry started her professional career in 2004 at age 15 with Hénin-Beaumont before making the move to CNF Clairefontaine where she made 20 appearances. From there, she transferred to storied club Olympique Lyonnais in 2007. During her time in Lyon, Henry amassed 132 appearances from 2007 to 2016 and won Division 1 Féminine nine times, Coupe de France Féminine six times, and UEFA Women's Champions League three times.
"Amandine brings a wealth of experience as a player with a champion's mindset. Her professional accomplishments speak for themselves, but her personality and leadership qualities will be invaluable as we continue to shape our identity here in Utah." said sporting director Kelly Cousins. "We are excited to welcome such a decorated athlete to our club and look forward to seeing her on the pitch in Royal colors."
Following her time in France, Henry made the move to Portland Thorns, spending two seasons in the States, making 33 appearances for the Thorns and winning the NWSL Championship. Moving back to Lyon in 2017, she would remain there until 2023 while also adding four more Division 1 Féminine titles, two more Coupe de France Féminine titles, and four more UEFA Women's Champions League titles.
Henry has featured in four matches so far this season for Angel City FC starting in three of them. The defensive midfielder will be an instant contributor as she is currently in the 99th percentile for progressive passes and carries as well as aerial duels won. She also ranks in the 97th percentile for interceptions.
Utah Royals FC faces Racing Louisville at Lynn Family Stadium tonight at 3:00 p.m. MT before returning home to host Houston Dash on April 27th with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. MT. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.rsl.com/utahroyals/tickets/.
