Frederick Keys News Release
Frederick bats could never get going as two Blue Rocks left-handed starters Buddy Baumann and John Lamb dominated the day. The Keys were swept in a doubleheader in Wilmington, DE losing 10-1, 2-0.
In the opener, Wilmington got the big inning blowing the game wide open with six runs in the second inning. Wilmington RF Nick Francis led off the inning with a single. A passed ball moved him to second base and he stole third. Blue Rocks C Will Myers walked and a sac fly brought home the first Wilmington run. Next up was third baseman Adam Frost who lightly tapped a groundball to the right side of the infield. The Keys couldn't get an out and it was a sign of things to come. Two more balls in the inning would not leave the infield grass without the Keys getting an out.
All-in-all the Blue Rocks scored six runs on five hits in the frame. Four of the six were earned with the lone error being a Jacob Julius throwing error on a potential double play ball.
Frederick scored its lone run in the fourth inning when RF Ronnie Welty tripled home Kyle Hudson with one out.
In the nightcap, Lamb held the Keys at bay and a strong start from RHP Ryan Berry was not enough. Berry walked the leadoff man in the first inning and faced the Rocks Myers with two on and two out. He hit a deep fly to left-center field that Keys CF Xavier Avery could not pull down while crashing into the wall. Two runs scored and it would be all Wilmington needed.
Frederick mustered just one hit against Lamb who struck out eight in his six innings. The dominant lefty is just five days past his 20th birthday. Wilmington RHP Barry Bowden set the Keys down in order to end the seventh inning.
The Keys will try to get things back on track in Wilmington Friday, July 16th at 7:05 p.m. against the Blue Rocks. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on The Keys Baseball Network. RHP Oliver Drake will make the start for the Keys.
Frederick returns home Thursday, July 22nd to take on the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at 7:00 p.m. for 50 cent Hot Dog Night presented by Dietz and Watson. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or visit online at frederickkeys.com.
