U.S. National Team News Release

United States National Team Development Program (NTDP) U-18 head coach Ron Rolston announced the captains for the 2004-05 U-18 season, as forward Jimmy Fraser (Port Huron, Michigan) will serve as the team captain. Joining Fraser as assistant captains will be forward Nathan Gerbe (Oxford, Michigan) and defenseman Zach Jones (Lisle, Illinois)

"They have clearly shown their leadership abilities," said Rolston. "As players entering their second season with the NTDP, it is clear they have earned the respect of their teammates and coaching staff."

Fraser will wear the captain "C' for the second straight season, as he served as captain of the U-17 NTDP squad during the 2003-04 season. He played in 65 games last season, posting 12-12–24 scoring totals with two power play and two game-winning goals.

"To be selected as captain is a great honor," said Fraser. "Being selected as captain along with two players who bring their best every single day like Nathan (Gerbe) and Zach (Jones) do is also a true honor."

Second year forward, Gerbe, played in 58 games in 2003-04. He appeared in 36 games with the U-17 and 22 with the U-18, team recording 25 goals and 19 assists with eight power play, four game winning and two short-handed goals.

Jones, who earned the "Best Defenseman" award at the 2004 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World U-18 Championship in Minsk, Belarus, in April, 2004, joins Gerbe as an assistant captain with the U-18 Team. Jones played in 64 games with the NTDP in 2003-04 (45 with the U-17, 19 with U-18) totaling 2 two goals and 13 points.

"The three players selected epitomize all the qualities you look for in leaders," said Rolston. "They lead by example, not only on the ice but in the way they conduct themselves off the ice."
