Fresno FC News Release
FRESNO - The Foxes extended their unbeaten streak to six matches, but still couldn't come away with three points as they were held to a 0-0 draw against San Antonio FC on Sunday evening at Chukchansi Park. It was the first time this season that Fresno FC was held scoreless through 90 minutes.
The Foxes carried most of the game, driving in 19 shots, including seven on target but were unable to find a way through San Antonio's defense anchored by goalkeeper Diego Restrepo. Fresno had early chances, with defender Mickey Daly finding a chance inside the penalty area but his shot sailed over the crossbar. A few minutes later, Juan Pablo Caffa dribbled his way into box and past a sliding Restrepo only to see his finish cleared off the line by defender Ryan Roushandel.
Caffa led the offense with eight shots (four on target), but could not find the back of the net, with three of his shots blocked. In the 28th minute, Pedro Ribeiro nearly mirrored his golazo from earlier in the week, firing a blast from 30 yards out only to miss a foot wide of the goal. The Foxes kept knocking, drawing eight corner kicks before the halftime break and nine for the night.
San Antonio had a strong chance after the break, ass Cesar Elizondo bounced a header over the crossbar after Jose Escalante made extra space on the left wing in the 63rd minute. Restrepo kept his goal clear in the second half, denying Caffa a second time as his header aimed for the left corner was punched away.
At the 77th, Daly nearly found the back of the net on his header near goal, only to see a leaping Restrepo make another stop. Fresno FC played with a one-man advantage after the 89th minute, when San Antonio FC's Kris Tyrpak was sent off, but Fresno was unable to capitalize settling for its third consecutive draw.
The two clubs will meet again in two weeks in Week 8 in San Antonio on May 5th. The Foxes hit the road in Week 7, playing at Phoenix Rising FC on Saturday, April 28th.
EL MEXICANO MAN OF THE MATCH: MICKEY DALY, GK
Daly led the Foxes with seven clearances, three interceptions and a 87.1% passing accuracy. The center back also had two shots on goal, with his header at the 77th minute landing on target.
