Nashville SC News Release

NASHVILLE - After the team's first weekend off in two months, Nashville SC will play its first midweek action of the 2018 USL season when it visits Penn FC on Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. CST.

Penn Breakdown

Penn have earned three draws through four matches on the back of its defense in 2018. Allowing just three goals through four games, Penn is second in the USL in total goals conceded. Keeper Romuald Peiser has been in net for all four of Penn's games this year and has nine saves to go along with a clean sheet.

Offensively, Penn has just two goals in six total shots on net. Its 22 shots are the second fewest in the USL and its 19 chances are half that of Nashville. One of its two goalscorers on the season, Thomas Heinemann leads the team in shots with five, but didn't play on Saturday.

Nashville Narratives

Nashville SC will look to get back to its winning ways after a road loss last on April 14 at Indy Eleven. The nine days of rest between games are the most Nashville has had this season, and after the game it will be almost two weeks before Nashville plays again.

Forward Ropapa Mensah has scored in two straight games for Nashville SC and was awarded with his first start of the USL season against Indy. It will be a homecoming of sorts for Mensah, who played for Penn FC last season, when they were known as the Harrisburg City Islanders. In 2017, Mensah led Harrisburg City with seven goals in just 15 appearances.

Technical Talk

Nashville SC head coach Gary Smith

"The weekly format that we had has been broken up a little bit. I'm not sure it makes a huge difference. The players had an extra day to really have some down time and go again. We've only the Penn game in the space of three weeks because we come back from playing Penn and then we have another weekend off and play New York until the following Sunday. I think the bigger question is one game in three weeks. But, it has actually given me a good amount of time to get a group together and look at a couple of areas of our game that certainly need some work."

Watching the East

In spite of last week's loss, Nashville SC still remains in playoff position in eighth place in the USL Eastern Conference. A win on Tuesday would push Nashville into fourth place before a bye week.
