
Four Wave Players Called up to National Team January Training

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Four San Diego Wave Fútbol Club players have been called up to their national teams for January training camps. Forward Sofia Jakobsson will join the Swedish Women's National Team for a non-FIFA training window in preparation for the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. Defender Naomi Girma and forwards Taylor Kornieck and Alex Morgan have all been called up to the U.S. Women's National Team 24-person roster in New Zealand for two matches against the Football Ferns, the 2023 World Cup co-hosts.
The USWNT will train in New Zealand for six days before facing the Ferns at Sky Stadium at 4 p.m. local time on January 18, which will be 10 p.m. ET on January 17 in the United States. The teams meet again on January 21 at Eden Park, also at 4 p.m. local, which is 10 p.m. ET on January 20 in the USA. Both matches from New Zealand will be available to stream on HBO Max.
The ninth edition of the FIFA Women's World Cup will take place from July 20 to Aug. 20, 2023 across 10 stadiums in Australia and New Zealand. The USWNT will open Group E play against Vietnam on July 22 at Eden Park, while Sweden will open Group G on July 23 against South Africa at Wellington Regional Stadium.
