Washington Valor News Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Arena Football League (AFL) announced today the 2019 All-Arena teams. Washington Valor players Jimmy Gordon (LB), Alvin Ray Jackson (LB), Arvell Nelson (QB) and Anthony Parker (OL) were named Second Team All-Arena for their performances in 2019.

Gordon was a steady force for the Valor defense all season, starting all 12 regular season games and leading the team in sacks (2) and tackles for loss (3.5).

Jackson started 11 of 12 regular season games this season, leading the team in total tackles (45.5), solo tackles (37) and tackle assists (17). Jackson's 17 tackle assists set a new Valor single-season record. The nine-year AFL veteran's best performance of the season came in Week 5, earning AFL Defensive Player of the Week and the game's Defensive Player of the Game honors for his showing against the Columbus Destroyers: five tackles (four solo) and a pivotal interception, which he returned for a touchdown, kickstarting a second-half Valor comeback victory.

Nelson led the AFL with 73 total touchdowns (54 passing, 19 rushing) this season, ranked first in rushing yards (226) and rushing touchdowns (19) and finished second in passing yards (2,980). The seven-year AFL veteran started the season with a record-breaking performance, throwing for 391 yards and eight touchdowns in Week 1 against Baltimore, setting new Valor single-game records in both categories. Nelson set Valor single-season records in completions (240), attempts (412), passing yards (2,980), passing touchdowns (54), rushing attempts (75), rushing yards (226) and rushing touchdowns (19).

Parker started all 12 games on a Valor offensive line that allowed just seven sacks this season and has been a mainstay of the Valor offensive line since the team's first season in 2017. In Week 8 against Albany, Parker showed off his receiving skills, catching a six-yard touchdown pass on his only reception of the season.

Game 2 of Washington's semifinal series against Philadelphia will be played this Sunday, August 4 at 4 p.m. at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa. The Soul will enter Game 2 with a 36-point advantage in the series' aggregate scoring. The team with the highest aggregate score after Game 2 will advance to ArenaBowl 32, set for August 11 at 8 p.m.
