Four Run Sixth Propels Pilots Past Golden Eagles

Glens Falls, NY - Following the Fourth of July holiday break from PGCBL play, the Glens Falls Golden Eagles and Newark Pilots resumed play at East Field Tuesday evening as Newark defeated Glens Falls 7-4 behind a four run sixth inning.

With a 2-1 lead entering the top of the sixth, Newark's Ray Delvalle (Kentucky Wesleyan) reached on a wild pitch and advanced to second on an intentional walk to Randy Villa (San Joaquin Delta). With the runners on first and second, Shayne Herold (Ashland) hit an RBI single to score Delvalle putting the Pilots up 3-1. The run-scoring would continue as Michael Bolling (Lewis) added an RBI single and Greg Schworm (Finger Lakes CC) contributed a two-RBI single to solidify the Pilots' 6-1 lead.

Mounting a comeback in the bottom of the same frame, the Golden Eagles scored three runs to cut Newark's lead to 6-4. Ricky Claudio (St. Thomas) ignited Glens Falls' comeback reaching on a walk while Josh Anderson (Yavapai) followed with a single. Mike Kindel (Kansas St) then smashed a two-RBI triple to score Claudio and Anderson cutting the lead to 6-3. Earning the RBI on the final Golden Eagles' run of the night was David Olson (Tacoma CC) as he hit an RBI sac fly to left to bring Kindel home from third.

Winning the game for the Pilots was Edwin Reyes (UAB) who pitched seven strong innings yielding only four runs on six hits. Golden Eagles starter Neil Fryer (Siena) went 5 2/3 innings allowing five earned runs on five hits while striking out seven Newark batters and allowing only a single walk.

Earning the save for the Pilots was Mark Scott (San Joaquin Delta) who pitched a scoreless ninth to preserve the Newark lead.

Leading the offense for Newark was Villa who went two for three scoring three runs while scoring the Pilots' first run on a powerful solo-homerun in the fourth. Delvalle recorded two hits and scored a run while Bolling scored twice to contribute to Newark's win.

For the Golden Eagles, Kindel led the offense going two for four while recording two runs and two RBI's. Also earning RBI's for Glens Falls were Zac Hawkins (LSU-Eunice), and Olson. Josh Anderson picked up two hits in the game and scored a run while Claudio also scored.

The Golden Eagles drop to 13-7 on the season picking up its third straight loss at home. Newark moves to 9-10 in PGCBL play.

Wednesday, the Golden Eagles travel to Cooperstown to face the Hawkeyes while the Pilots return home to host Mohawk Valley. Glens Falls will next play at home Thursday evening host Elmira for Scout Night. All area scouts receive free admission by wearing their uniforms.
