Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TENN. (AUGUST 12, 2009) - Chattanooga (26-20) picked up a pivotal win on Wednesday night over the Diamond Jaxx (23-23), 5-2, pushing their lead in the North to three games with 24 games to play. The loss spoils a nice return by Jaxx starter, Robert Rohbaugh, making his first start since being placed on the DL on April 29th. Rohrbaugh worked six innings and allowed just one run. Ezequiel Carrera extends his hitting streak to six games and 11 of his last 12 games by posting a 3-for-4 performance. Carrera now has 25 multi-hit games this season. The Jaxx walked six times and out-hit Chattanooga 10-8, but stranded 11 on the paths tonight.
After three innings of scoreless baseball for LHP Robert Rohrbaugh, Lookouts left fielder, Andrew Lambo brought home Lucas May with a sacrifice fly, giving Chattanooga a 1-0 lead.
Andrew Lambo greeted Jaxx reliever Edward Paredes rudely, launching a three-run homer to right in the top of the sixth inning. Paredes, making his Double-A debut this season, walked three and allowed four runs in the inning. The Lookouts took a 5-0 lead out of the top of the sixth inning. Mumba Rivera replaced Paredes in the top of the inning a retired three straight.
Robert Rohrbaugh made his first start for the Jaxx since April 25th. He was placed on the DL on the 29th due to a shoulder injury and re-joined the team after a short stint in Arizona. Rohrbaugh dealt five innings on Wednesday night. He allowed one run on four hits in the outing and struck out five.
The Jaxx answered back in the bottom of the sixth inning, running Lookout starter, Alberto Bastardo from the game. Guillermo Quiroz delivered an RBI double scoring Ezequiel Carrera. Johan Limonta followed with an RBI single scoring Quiroz and the Jaxx cut the Lookout lead to 5-2 after the sixth inning.
Matt Sartor dealt a scoreless ninth inning, earning his 11th save of the season. Each team used four pitchers in the tilt and there were 10 walks combined between the two teams.
The Jaxx and Lookouts play game two of the series on Thursday night at Pringles Park, beginning at 7:05. RHP Luis Munoz (5-6, 4.48) makes the start for the Diamond Jaxx. Opposing Munoz for the Lookouts will be RHP Jesus Castillo (7-7, 4.42).
