Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
KINSTON, N.C. - The Down East Wood Ducks plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on Tuesday night to down the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 5-4 from Grainger Stadium.
Trailing 4-1 in the seventh, two of the first three Down East (4-2) batters drew walks and both scored on a two-run triple from Eric Jenkins to cut the deficit to one run. After Leody Taveras coaxed a walk, Anderson Tejeda delivered a two-run double off of Ben Hecht (0-1) to give the Woodies a 5-4 lead.
Demarcus Evans then came in and, after walking two batters in the ninth, recorded a four-out save. It was his first save of the season with the Wood Ducks.
The Woodies jumped on the board first in the bottom of the third inning when Yanio Perez scored on a wild pitch.
Myrtle Beach (1-5) tied it in the fifth when D.J. Wilson hit an RBI double, and then took a 3-1 lead in the sixth with Aramis Ademan's two-run, infield single.
In the top of the seventh, Kevonte Mitchell gave the Birds a 4-1 advantage with an RBI base hit. He finished 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, an RBI and a run scored.
In his start, though he received a no-decision, Luis Lugo was brilliant for the Pelicans. The lefty went five innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out six and walking one.
Josh Advocate (1-0) earned the win for Down East with a his 1.2 innings out of the bullpen. He gave up a run on a hit while walking two and striking out a batter.
