Pittsfield Suns News Release
PITTSFIELD, MA (July 1, 2014) - The Pittsfield Suns scored four runs both the fourth and seventh innings to beat the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide by a score of 8-2 Tuesday evening at Wahconah Park.
Four runs crossed the plate for the Suns, all coming with two outs in the fourth inning. After back-to-back singles from Michael Valentin Jr. and Dan Cellucci, the Raging Tide pegged both Tad Martin and Gary Tesch to give Pittsfield a one run lead. Dan Cellucci would later score after an error by the Old Orchard Beach shortstop, Kyle Mendenhall. The pitching woes continued as starter Will Ore walked Dan Palazzo with the bases loaded to give the Suns a three run advantage. The fourth and final run of the inning came as Jeff McGarry was hit by a pitch, scoring the runner from third.
Old Orchard Beach got a run back in the fifth by stringing together three hits with one out. Makae Hyde singled to reach base, before Kyle Mendenhall smacked a double, putting Hyde at third. Skip Flanagan then hit an RBI singe to score Hyde, bringing the Raging Tide within three.
Unfortunately an extra run for Old Orchard Beach in the seventh inning wouldn't be enough to deter the Suns. Pittsfield scored an additional four runs in the bottom of the seventh, bringing the final tally to 8-2, Pittsfield.
Starter Phil Reese recorded his second win for the Suns, giving up only four hits, two runs and no walks in six and one third innings. Ore, (0-2) was charged with five hits, four runs (one earned) and four walks in the Raging Tide loss.
The Suns next game at Wahconah Park is Friday, July 4th. General Admission seats are available for this Independence Day game. Fourth of July Fireworks will follow immediately following the game. Gates open at 5 PM. For tickets, visit pittsfieldsuns.com or call (413)445-SUNS.
