Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

The Amarillo Sox dropped their second straight game to open a four game series with South Division rival Grand Prairie Friday night, 5-4 in front of 1,175 fans at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium. The loss drops Amarillo to 7-8 on the season.

The Sox seemed in control for the first six innings, as knuckle ball pitcher Joe Zeller pitched his second quality start of the season. Zeller allowed just one earned run in 6 1/3 innings. The run came on a two-out RBI single by Brandon Pinckney in the top of the fourth, the game's first run.

The Sox would answer the 1-0 deficit, and break a streak of 13 consecutive innings without a run in the bottom half of the fourth. Keith Brachold led off the inning with a double, and came around to score on an RBI double by Jeremy Williams to tie the game. Williams would score when the next batter, Jeff Farnham, hit an RBI single to right. Farnham would then score from third on an error by the pitcher Aaron Wilkerson, who was attempting to pick off Jason Martin at first.

Zeller made sure the 3-1 lead stood through six innings, and exited the game after striking out Jimmy Mojica for the first out in the top of the seventh. Casey Beck came on in relief with a runner at first and one out. After not allowing a run in his first six appearances, Beck struggled against the heart of the AirHogs lineup. After getting Michael Hur to ground out for the second out, Beck hit Palmer Karr with a pitch, allowed an RBI single to Michael Hur, and a three-run home run to Andres Rodriguez o give the AirHogs a 5-3 lead.

Amarillo would get one of the runs back in the bottom of the seventh, when Brachold hit an RBI single to score Derek Perren to cut the deficit to 5-4. But Amarillo would go down in order in the eighth and ninth innings with a chance to tie. Beck took the loss in relief, while Grand Prairie starter Aaron Wilkerson got the win. Dakota Watts pitched a perfect ninth for the save.

Amarillo plays Grand Prairie in the third game of the four-game series Saturday night in Amarillo. It will be "80s Night" at the ballpark, with fans who dress in 80s costumes getting buy one, get one free tickets at the stadium box office. First pitch is at 7:05.
