
Four Rockies earn All Star honors for '05

Casper, WY - The Casper Rockies have placed three players on the Pioneer League All Star team for the 2005 season. Team skipper, PJ Carey was also named Pioneer League Manager of the Year today. Second baseman Corey Wimberly, Right-hander Chaz Roe and Closer Andrew Johnston were named All Stars in their first professional seasons.
The award for Carey is his second in the Pioneer League, having also been honored in '91 as the Manager of the Billings Mustangs. This is the fourth year Carey has won the Manager of the Year award since joining the Rockies organization. He had previously won in '96 with Asheville (South Atlantic League) and twice, '98 and '00, with Tucson (Arizona League).
Wimberly, a native of Jacksonville, Florida and 6th round draft choice this June, is leading all current Pioneer players in hitting with a .371 batting average. He also leads the league in hits with 79 and ranks third in stolen bases with 24. The switch-hitter led the NCAA in hitting in '05 as he batted .472 at Alcorn State University.
Roe, the second player drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the first round this June, is 4-2 with a 2.90 ERA in nine starts this season. He is also averaging better than a strikeout per inning on the season (44 K in 40.1 innings).
Johnston, a 9th round selection out of the University of Missouri this June, is 1-2 with a 1.33 ERA. The right-hander leads the Pioneer League with 14 saves this season. He is holding opponents to a .165 batting average.
Cole Garner and Kyle Blumenthal were also named to the All Star team as Honorable Mentions
