Chicago Stars FC News Release
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - Four members of the Chicago Red Stars will miss an upcoming road trip after being called for international duty during the month of July. Carli Lloyd, Megan Rapinoe and Lindsay Tarpley have all been called up to the U.S. Women's National Team, while Karen Carney will join England for a pair of friendlies.
Tarpley will look to extend her status as the most-capped player on the Red Stars' roster when the U.S. plays a pair of exhibitions against Canada. The Kalamazoo, Mich., native has played in 118 games with the national team and has scored 30 goals, including earlier this year in a 4-0 U.S. win over Canada on May 25th.
The Americans will play a pair of exhibitions with Canada - July 19th in Rochester, N.Y., and again July 22nd in Charleston, S.C. The matches will mark the 46th and 47th all-time meetings between the countries, with the U.S. enjoying a commanding a 38-3-4 record in the series.
Carney will also miss time with the Red Stars while competing for the England Women's National Team. Just 21 years old, Carney has already earned 45 caps for England. The Birmingham native has scored seven goals in international competition. She will join England for two matches, July 16th against Iceland and the 22nd against Denmark.
All four players will miss Chicago's road games at Boston July 15th and Sky Blue FC July 19th. The players will return to the Red Stars in time for the July 26th match against Washington at TOYOTA PARK.
The Red Stars will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the U.S. championship at the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup this Sunday, July 12th at TOYOTA PARK. World Cup heroes Brandi Chastain, Briana Scurry and Tiffeny Milbrett will be on hand to interact with fans. The Red Stars are offering a special 99-cent ticket offer for the 7 pm match, which requires an additional ticket purchased at the group discount rate. The first 100 fans to purchase tickets in the midfield section will have the opportunity to take a postgame photo with Chastain, Scurry and the 1999 World Cup trophy.
