Boston Breakers News Release

Early O'Reilly Goal Lifts Sky Blue FC Past Breakers 1-0

Heather O'Reilly scored the game's only goal in the sixth minute to give Sky Blue FC a 1-0 win over the Boston Breakers in Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) action Saturday afternoon at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J.

"It was a pretty even game and we certainly had our chances," said Breakers head coach Tony DiCicco. "They scored on the corner and we weren't able to answer. We played hard and created chances in the second half, we just weren't able to convert. We have to execute better next week. The effort was pretty good, we just need to be better in the final pass and the final shot."

Boston (5-5-3, 18 points), which played for the first time in 10 days, came into the match having won back-to-back matches and were unbeaten in their last three. The loss combined with Saint Louis Athletica's 1-0 win over FC Gold Pride on Sunday drops the Breakers down to third place. Sky Blue FC (4-6-3, 15 points) moves to fifth place with their second win in as many matches over the Breakers this season - both snapping three-match unbeaten runs.

Limited Packages Remain for Remembering '99 Celebration

It's hard to believe that July 10, 2009 will mark the 10th anniversary of the U.S. Women's National Team's landmark victory over China in the 1999 Women's World Cup. As part of a WPS league-wide initiative to mark this historic moment in soccer, the Boston Breakers will look back at '99 during our next home game against Sky Blue FC on Sunday, July 12th.

1999 USWNT veteran Danielle Fotopoulos will be on hand to sign autographs and greet fans prior to the game and to participate in a video presentation during halftime.

Breakers fans can also purchase a World Cup Legends Package for July 12th, which includes four Category II tickets to the game, along with a post-game photo on the field with the 1999 World Cup Trophy and Breakers 1999 World Cup Legends Tony DiCicco and Kristine Lilly. This is a $149 value available for only $99.00 and limited packages are available. Group outing leaders may also add this opportunity to their existing group ticket package for July 12th and should call for details on how to do so. Please call 781-251-2100 and ask to speak to a Breakers account executive for additional information and reservations.
