Bradenton Marauders News Release
BRADENTON, Fla. - Four Bradenton pitchers combined to hold Lakeland to one run on three hits Friday night, and Mike Jarvis led the way with two RBI for the Marauders in a 3-1 win over the Flying Tigers at LECOM Park.
Rehabbing Pirates left-hander Sam Howard pitched a scoreless first inning for the Marauders (5-2), and Justin Meis (1-1) pitched four scoreless innings for Bradenton to earn the win.
Nick Dombkowski and Yunior Thibo combined for four innings of strong relief, with the latter earning his first save of the season after a scoreless ninth inning.
The Marauders scored first in the bottom of the second inning. Jase Bowen was hit by a pitch and took third base on an Alexander Mojica single. Juan Jerez plated Bowen with a deep flyout to the warning track in center field, and after a strikeout, Mike Jarvis delivered an RBI-double for a 2-0 Marauders lead.
Flying Tigers (2-5) starter Alex Faedo (1-1) recovered to hold Bradenton scoreless in the third, but the Marauders added a run in the fourth, when Jerez blooped a double down the right-field line and scored on a Jarvis single. Jarvis' two RBI led Bradenton, and Mojica paced the club with three hits, including an eighth-inning double.
Faedo fanned five batters but received no run support in the low-scoring contest. The right-hander lasted three and two-thirds innings before yielding to the Lakeland bullpen.
The Flying Tigers' lone run in the game came on a solo homer by Izaac Pacheco, who worked a nine-pitch at-bat against Dombkowski in the sixth. Dombkowski retired nine of the ten batters he faced in three innings of work.
Thibo ran into trouble on the mound for the Marauders in the ninth, issuing a leadoff walk to Roberto Campos and a two-out walk to Carlos Mendoza. But the right-hander got pinch-hitter Alvaro Gonzalez to chase a two-strike pitch in the dirt, ending the game and leaving runners stranded on the corners for Lakeland.
The series continues Saturday at LECOM Park with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. RHP Po-Yu Chen (0-0, 2.25 ERA) will start for the Marauders against RHP Wilkel Hernandez (0-1, 0.00 ERA) for the Flying Tigers.
