Four Comets Players Earn All-League Team Honors

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) announced today its 2015/16 All-League First, Second, and Third teams ahead of the Conference Championship series. Team captain Vahid Assadpour, goalkeeper Boris Pardo, defender John Sosa and forward Leo Gibson received the honors.

Each team, as well as members of the league front office were each given a ballot and the players who received the most points at each position were placed on All-League Teams. Players receive two points for a first team vote, two points for a second team vote, and one point for a third team vote.

For the second consecutive season, team captain Vahid Assadpour was named to the All-League First Team. Also an assistant coach on the team, he led the Comets to a 17-3 overall record in the regular season with a total of 50 points on 23 goals and 27 assists.

2014/15 league Most Valuable Player was named to the Second Team. Following a record-breaking season last year, the Monrovia, Liberia native finished the season with 21 goals and 23 assists for a total of 44 points.

Last year's Defender of the Year Finalist John Sosa earned Third Team honors. The Medellin, Colombia native recorded 28 points on nine goals and 19 assists.

Lastly, goalkeeper Boris Pardo was placed in the All-League Third Team after a season in which he led the league with 16 wins and finished second with a 4.57 GAA.

The Missouri Comets are one of the four teams remaining in the 2016 Ron Newman Cup Playoffs after advancing to the Eastern Conference Championship on Sunday. Coach Vlatko Andonovski's team will square off against Baltimore in a home-and-away series.

D Eric Guzman Las Vegas Legends Guzman scored 17 goals and 23 assists with 14 blocked shots

D Damian Garcia Soles de Sonora Garcia scored 22 goals and 13 assists with 10 blocked shots

M Vahid Assadpour Missouri Comets Assadpour scored 23 goals and 27 assists and led the Comets with 50 points

F Kraig Chiles San Diego Sockers Chiles was second with 55 points on 28 goals and 27 assists

F Franck Tayou Soles de Sonora Tayou finished the season at the top of the league standings with 62 points on 47 goals and 15 assists.
