April 26, 2013 - NBA G League (G League)
Cleveland Charge News Release
Four different Canton Charge players received All-NBA Development League honors, the league announced today. Guard Jorge Gutierrez, guard Kyle Gibson, center Arinze Onuaku and center Micheal Eric were all recognized for their play from throughout the 2012-13 season.
"We had a fantastic group of players all season long that worked very hard and were all deserving of some recognition," said Charge Head Coach Alex Jensen. "These four made coaching easier for me with their effort and contributions to our team and I'm really happy for them."
Gutierrez (6-3, 195, California) was named First Team All-Defense and First Team All-Rookie after playing in 50 games (43 starts) and averaging 10.5 points on .428 shooting with 4.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.8 steals (8th best in D-League) in 31.4 minutes per game. The 2011-12 PAC 12 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, Jorge was drafted by the Charge in the 2nd Round (26th overall) in the 2012 NBA D-League Draft.
Gibson (6-5, 205, Louisiana Tech) and Onuaku (6-9, 275, Syracuse) both received All-NBA Development League Honorable Mention honors. A returning player from last year, Gibson started all 44 games he played this year and averaged 16.6 points on .424 shooting with 3.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 33.0 minutes per game. Acquired via trade before the season, Onuaku played in 38 games (32 starts) and averaged 12.6 points on .564 shooting (4th best in D-League) with 9.5 rebounds (5th best in D-League) and 0.9 blocks in 23.6 minutes per game.
Eric (6-10, 240, Temple) was named Second Team All-Rookie after playing in all 50 games (17 starts) and averaged 8.1 points on .506 shooting with 7.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.7 blocks in 22.1 minutes per game. Micheal came to Canton via the affiliate rule after being in training camp with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In total, 13 of the 15 players selected to this year's All-NBA D-League First, Second, and Third Teams have NBA experience, with eight earning GATORADE Call-Ups during the 2012-13 season and seven currently on NBA rosters. Of those seven, five are on NBA teams currently competing in the Playoffs. Fifteen first-year professionals were selected to the 2013 NBA D-League All-Rookie First, Second and Third teams.
