Foscue Homers in Tuesday Loss

FRISCO, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders began a six-game series against the San Antonio Missions with a 6-5 loss Tuesday night at Riders Field. Second baseman Justin Foscue knocked his 10th home run of the season in the bottom of the 1st inning to lead the offense, his fifth in his last eight games.

The Missions plated two runs in the top of the 1st inning on Frisco starter Seth Nordlin (2-2) behind a leadoff double from San Diego rehabber Fernando Tatis Jr., who finished 2-for-2 with a double and triple and a pair of walks. Missions right fielder Jack Stronach singled Yorman Rodriguez in to give San Antonio a 2-0 lead after the top of the 1st.

The RoughRiders answered with Foscue's two-run homer off Missions righty Henry Henry (3-0) in the in the bottom of the 1st to promptly even Tuesday's score at 2-2.

Henry tossed a season-high five innings and struck out five batters, his first start of at least five innings since September 1st, 2018. Henry exited with a 4-2 lead after San Antonio plated another pair of runs in the top of the 2nd inning.

After four runs on six hits in his first two innings, Nordlin held the Missions scoreless in his final 10 batters faced, giving up one hit.

Frisco reliever Triston Polley struck out a batter in his two innings of relief work, sitting down the Missions consecutively while not allowing a base runner.

Frisco first baseman Blaine Crim doubled to begin the bottom of the 6th inning. Crim advanced on a groundout from shortstop Luisangel Acuna and scored on a wild pitch, trimming the deficit to 4-3. Tatis ended his night with a leadoff triple in the top of the seventh before Connor Kaiser relieved him for the rest of the night.

Acuna walked with one out in the bottom of the 8th and promptly stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error from catcher Webster Rivas. Designated hitter Kellen Strahm scored Acuna on a sacrifice fly to bring the Riders within a 5-4 margin. Strahm finished as the only Riders hitter with a multi-hit night, going 2-for-3.

Each club scored in the 9th as Missions third baseman Juan Fernandez singled to score Tirso Ornelas and give San Antonio a 6-4 advantage. Center fielder Josh Stowers worked a leadoff walk and scored on a two-out double from Jax Biggers but was stranded at second as the game's tying run.

Frisco and San Antonio continue their season series Wednesday night with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch at Riders Field. Riders RHP Tim Brennan (4-3, 3.51 ERA) makes his 10th start of the season for Frisco Wednesday night, while San Antonio RHP Ben Krauth (3-2, 5.40 ERA) is scheduled to take the hill.
