Forward Matt Willows Loaned to Reading

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced that forward Matt Willows has been loaned to the Royals from the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League.

Willows (5'9/186) (25), a second year pro who hails from Congers, New York, registered eleven points (4g-7a) and two penalty minutes in seventeen games with the Allen Americans of the ECHL this season. He has also played one game with the Barracuda without registering any points or penalty minutes. Last season, Willows led all first year pros in the ECHL with sixty-six points (23g-43a) in seventy-one games with the Florida Everblades. At the conclusion of the season, he was bestowed with the John A. Daley Award as the ECHL's Rookie of the Year and selected to the league's All-Rookie Team. Prior to turning pro, Willows had an exceptional four-year career at the University of New Hampshire, where he served as the team's captain and received the Coaches Award for contributions on and off the ice in his senior season. As a junior, he received the Guy Smith Award as the team's best forward; and as a sophomore he was selected as the Wildcats' Most Improved Player. In 130 career collegiate games, Willows recorded ninety points (45g-45a) and ninety-six penalty minutes.
