Forward Madison Wins Postseason Berth in Regular Season Finale
October 5, 2019 - United Soccer League One (USL1)
Forward Madison FC News Release
Forward Madison FC booked its place in the USL League One playoffs with a win to remember, defeating Lansing Ignite FC 1-0 Saturday to clinch on the last day of the season. In handing Lansing its first loss in 13 matches, the Flamingos advanced to a League One playoff semifinal next week.
Wisconsin native J.C. Banks scored the only goal of the game, pinging a shot from the middle of the penalty area off his left foot past the goalkeeper in the 43rd minute.
Don Smart had a chance to make it two with a penalty kick in the second half, but his effort was denied by Lansing's Stefan Cleveland.
FMFC's players were aided by the presence of several hundred traveling fans, who sung and chanted throughout the game. Forward's supporters' group, The Flock, was responsible for much of the traveling party, bringing around 100 fans in on buses.
With its playoff ticket punched, Forward Madison will move on to play in a League One playoff semifinal next weekend. Assuming the Forward finishes fourth (Greenville Triumph would have to lose by five goals Saturday night for FMFC to pass them), the Flamingos will travel to play North Texas SC on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.
