Forward Madison Signs Two USL Championship Players on Loan
July 1, 2019 - United Soccer League One (USL1)
Forward Madison FC News Release
Forward Madison FC has signed Louis Bennett and Oliver White on loan from USL Championship club Memphis 901 FC for the remainder of the 2019 season, the team announced Monday. Bennett, a midfielder, and White, a forward, become the first additions to FMFC's inaugural roster since the team's season kicked off in April.
According to Head Coach Daryl Shore, the duo adds greater options to a team that has often run on little rest this year.
"We're excited to add both Louis and Oliver to our roster and I'm glad we could work something out with Memphis to do this loan," Shore said. "I think both players will add some much-needed depth to our team and I look forward to both contributing right away."
Louis Bennett, a 24-year-old who can play any position in midfield, is Forward Madison's third Wisconsin native to join the team. Bennett was born in Shorewood, and played under his father, Louis Bennett Sr., from 2013-2015 at Marquette University, where he was named to the All-Big East team. Bennett already has professional experience, having spent 2017 with Swope Park Rangers in the USL Championship.
"Louis is a smart player, he's a good passer, he's very dangerous when taking set pieces and he brings a left-footed dynamic to our midfield," Shore said. "He's a guy I watched play at Marquette, and to bring a player with local ties back to Wisconsin is always nice. I know he's excited about coming home."
Oliver White, a 24-year-old striker, has played three games for Memphis in the USL Championship this year, and made an appearance against Major League Soccer's Orlando City in the U.S. Open Cup. White played four years for Harvard University, and after getting passed over in the 2016 MLS draft, went to Australia to keep playing and prove his worth. It worked, with White earning his first stateside contract in April.
"We see Oliver playing mostly as a target forward, but he can also get behind defenses and he's good in front of goal," Shore said. "We think that Oliver's speed and his ability to get into the box will help us create more chances and hopefully score more goals."
Forward Madison currently sits in seventh place in USL League One, just five points off the playoff positions. Bennett and White will be available starting with FMFC's game this Saturday, July 6, when the Flamingos travel to play South Georgia Tormenta FC.
